  • 07/07/11--06:47: Transformers: Nexus Point (chan 2061895)

  • Quick movie-related (spoiler-free) aside about Dark of the Moon here...

Up until last week, my mom's favorite Transformer was Shockwave.  Granted, she hadn't actually seen him in action and only knew him from me talking about him, but she thought he was cute.  She even swiped my Robot Heroes Shockwave figure at some point and has been carrying him around in her purse ever since.  Good to know I'm not the only one who lugs robots around in my purse.  :giggle:

That all changed in the theater last Saturday.  As the credits were rolling, Mom turned to look at me and said "I don't like Shockw

  • 07/12/11--19:42: Purple is Not a Sissy Color (chan 2061895)

  • So I had a random thought the other day.  Yeah, shocking, huh?  :giggle:

Anyhow, so purple seems to be the main color of the Decepticons -- it's the color of their crest, and quite a few Decepticons have purple as either a main color (Blitzwing, Galvatron, Cyclonus, Rumble, Octane) or a highlighting color (Skywarp, Astrotrain, Motormaster, Reflector).  This might seem a bit weird to a viewer, especially a first-time viewer expecting the villains to choose a more bad-aft color like red or black as their main color.  That, and pink seems to be an oddly common color among mechs -- Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime

  • 07/15/11--17:10: *sad sigh* (chan 2061895)

  • Sad day today.  We lost our new cat, Bumblebee.  :(

We woke up this morning to find Bumblebee weak and lethargic, with a runny nose and bleary eyes.  He could barely get up and walk, and his breathing seemed labored.  We had a family reunion planned for today, but we decided taking care of the cat was more important and rushed him to the vet, who determined that he had a bad infection exacerbated by feline leukemia (which he described to us as "basically AIDS, but for cats").  He said chances were very slim that he'd make it, and in the end we decided it was kinder to simply put him down.

  • 07/21/11--18:03: My Muse, Why Have You Forsaken Me? (chan 2061895)

  • So... it's been a week since I updated this thing, so I suppose I should give some sign that I'm still alive here...

Yes, I'm still in a writer's block.  I can't seem to get motivated to write anything this summer.  I guess it could be stress, both from work (we've had a record year at the library) and from home (there's quite a bit of stress at home, with Mom and Stepdad splitting up and money being rather tight).  Or it could just be because this idea for the Transformers: Nexus Point has taken over my brain and is demanding me to WRITE IT RIGHT NOW.  *sigh*  I have two fics in progress a

  • *looks at the calender*  Is it really nearly August?  Ack!  *flails*

Yes, it's getting close to Fandemonium time again.  Ten days, and I still have a costume to finish!  :ohnoes:  Thankfully there's not much to do on it -- just need to get a black wig and some red sunglasses, and make a cane (which'll just mean painting a wooden dowel white and making a topper for it).  I'm going to skip the gray face and body paint, though -- would rather avoid a mess.

Yes, I'm not going as a Transformer this year.  Shocker, huh?  I'm going as Terezi, a troll from

  • 07/30/11--17:50: POTC and My Name Is Khan (chan 2061895)

  • Fun little update -- we have baby chicks!  :D  Tuesday evening my brother went outside to check on his chickens, and we found one of the hens had been brooding (farm term for "sitting on eggs") and had hatched four chicks.  Sadly, one of them died on Thursday, but the other three appear to be alert and healthy.  We've moved the mother hen and her chicks into a smaller pen for the time being to keep them separate from the other hens -- chickens can be mean little devils and we don't want them to pick on and hurt the chicks.

No pics of the little ones yet, but I'll see what I can do...

  • Cookies (or maybe a llama) for the first person to guess where the title of this journal comes from... ;)

Fandemonium is tomorrow!  So if I don't respond to messages, notes, etc. for the next three days, don't worry, I'll do so once I get an opportunity.  I can never guarantee when I can get online during Fandemonium weekend -- activities last well into the night, and even though the convention is local it's always a crapshoot whether I'll get home before midnight or not.  :XD:

For those who don't know, Fandemonium is our local sci-fi/anime/gaming/horror/everything else convention.  It came about

  • 08/10/11--06:03: *curls up in a corner* (chan 2061895)

  • Just to let folks know, a Fandemonium update will be coming.  Just not right now.  There's been some family drama and I'm currently feeling like something scraped off the bottom of a shoe, which isn't really a mood conducive to giving a convention update.  Sorry, folks.

  • 08/13/11--10:36: Finally, a Fandemonium Update (chan 2061895)

  • Okay, for some reason DA isn't letting me edit my journal skin -- it gives me some crap about "invalid CSS" or something.  I don't want a fancy background for my journal, people, I just want a header with my links and a footer for my journal features.  Is that too much to ask?  :P

*sigh*  Will change my journal feature once I figure out the skin issue...

Things have calmed down and are better around here, so... the promised Fandemonium update!  Will cover mainly the highlights, since the entire weekend was generally insane.  Also, will have another link later with pics (which w

Sorry it's been so long between updates, folks.  This week got crazy.  After Fandemonium we ended up with several boxes of free apricots from a neighbor, and rather than let them go to waste Mom decided to make and can apricot jam.  Suffice it to say that if I see another apricot again anytime soon, it's

  • 08/25/11--20:27: We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties... HELP (chan 2061895)

  • Okay, I am having an issue here and hope someone who's more computer savvy than I can help me.

So awhile back I accidentally put my computer into hibernation mode instead of shutting it down, and I couldn't get it to wake up.  I had to restart it to get it back up and running.  I don't know if this has anything to do with the current issue, but I thought I'd bring it up just in case it's pertinent, since the problem didn't happen before then.

Ever since then, Jazz will randomly go into hibernation mode while I'm using it.  It's not like it's going into hibernation when I leave it alone -- I'll be in the mid

So the laptop issue seems to be solved.  I got a cooling unit for it to sit on, and I haven't had a problem since.  Yay!  :D  One of these days I should get the dust cleaned out of it to be on the safe side... and I need to back up all my files here too.  I'd rather not lose my writing and music and such just because the lapto

  • 09/07/11--06:57: Be It Ever So Humble, There's No Place Like Home (chan 2061895)

  • So the weekend at my sister's house was fun.  Exhausting, but fun.  Though seeing as she has four kids (one seven years old and autistic, one six and who thinks she rules the house, one eighteen months and full of mischief, and one just barely two months old), that's kind of understandable.

Oh, and Chi Chi accompanied us to my sister's house, since it's expensive to kennel a dog around here.  He did pretty well on the four-hour car ride there and back, and he behaved himself pretty well at my sister's house.  Especially around the kids -- in fact, he seems to think they're HIS kids.  Whenev

  • 09/13/11--08:16: I'm Bored, Let's Have a Meme (chan 2061895)

  • This weekend, we go two new additions to our farm -- goats!  :D  A friend of Mom's raises the little buggers and said we could have one or two if we wanted, so Mom and Brother #2 drove down to Utah to pick them up.  I didn't envy them -- riding in a car with a dog is hard enough, how much worse would a goat be as a travel companion?  Though according to Mom they weren't much trouble, and rode mostly without a fuss.

No names for the new arrivals yet -- they're white pygmy goats, a male and a female, and both are starting to grow their horns.  I have a few ideas for names, but I doubt the res

  • 09/16/11--18:59: Out With the Old (Meme), Into the New (chan 2061895)

  • I'm working on writing, I swear... it's just coming along very slowly.  Still hoping to have the last two chapters of The Gathering Storm done by the end of the month.  Though they may not be posted until October, seeing as they need to be beta-read first.  If my beta-reader doesn't think I've dropped off the face of the Earth by now... :XD:

  • Wow, a week without a journal.  What's wrong with me?  I used to post a couple journals a week.  I'm really slacking.

Then again, I seem to be slacking all around here -- I haven't had the urge to draw for a long time, and my urge to write has all but vanished.  I have the ideas in my head, but every time I sit down to write, I can't get the words to come together the way I want them to.  It's the most frustrating feeling in the world.  Especially since I want to get The Gathering Storm finished soon so I can move on to other projects, like the sequel to Glory's story and the Tran

  • EDIT:  Finally solved the journal skin issue!  Have a new Art Feature.  I'm sure people were getting sick of the ponies... ;)

Okay, having issues editing my journal skin again, so you're stuck with the My Little Pony feature for awhile longer until the Help Desk coughs up an answer.  Sorry, y'all.

I'm still hoping to have The Gathering Storm finished by the end of this month, but there's a good chance it might not happen.  I'm having difficulties getting motivated to finish this beast.  It seems fics always give me the hardest time when I'm trying to wrap them up --

  • Fixed the journal skin issue.  Thanks, HelpDesk.  Enjoy a Fireflight feature, because he's adorable.

*sigh*  Well, it looks like I'm not going to make my goal of finishing The Gathering Storm by the end of the month.  Part of this is because I'm still having trouble getting motivated to finish the story, and part is because, as I've been working, I'm realizing I'm going to need another chapter to cover everything I need to and avoid rushing things/cramming too much into one chapter.  My apologies everyone for making you wait longer!  I feel guilty that it's been so long since I p

  • 10/05/11--08:24: Book Recs - From Unicorns to Star Wars Origami (chan 2061895)

  • I am aiming to have this current chapter of The Gathering Storm sent to the beta reader by the end of the week.  We'll see if that happens, though.  This final bit of the story has been giving me heck since May, and I have a feeling it's going to turn out crappy.  :P  Hopefully it'll at least be entertaining for folks.  I've gotten the chance to write a few tidbits that I've been looking forward to committing to paper since I got the idea for this sequel, such as Guido and Lizzie both getting Crowning Moments of Awesome... but more on that I shan't say.  ;)

    Also, I've re-read part

  • 10/10/11--22:58: Chapter Nears Completion, and Pony Music Vids (chan 2061895)

  • So story news... I sadly did not get the chapter completed before the end of the week.  But I'm SO close!  I just have one last scene to write out, which I should be able to tackle and take care of tomorrow, then I can fire it off to the beta-reader for a check-over before posting.  Whoo!  Though sadly the final scene I have to write is one of the epic fight scenes, which are always a bugger for me to write... ah well.  I've managed fight scenes plenty of times before, I think I can manage this one...

I am really hoping to get The Gathering Storm over and done with by the end of October, so

  • Another journal so soon?  Well, I figured this was cause for celebration.

The next chapter to The Gathering Storm is finally finished!  :w00t:  Whoo hoo!

No, you won't be seeing this chapter for at least a couple days.  The beta-reader needs to look it over first, and it turned out to be a long chapter (17 pages!).  Plus I might need to edit it when it gets back.  But hopefully I can have it posted soon.  Will work on the epilogue to the story in the meantime, then get started on the next chapter to A Child Shall Lead Them.  After that...

  • So... the leg started feeling better on Wednesday, so I decided I'd go to work and just try to take it easy.  It's rather hard to take it easy at work, though, when you work one of the most physically demanding jobs at the library.  Shelving books isn't exactly a desk job, after all, and entails a LOT of bending, lifting, and walking.  So it wasn't much of a surprise that I woke up on Thursday with my knee killing me.  :P

Long story short, I'm stuck in a chair until the knee shows signs of improvement.  And I'm not going back to work on Saturday without wearing a knee brace.  My b

Lightning stirred, awareness returning slowly after a deep, dreamless sleep.  Lights flashed behind his eyelids, forming strange symbols that arranged themselves into neat, glowing rows.  His wakening mind somehow made sense of the symbols, translating them as system readouts, energy level notifications, damage reports.  He felt strange -- not in pain, but as if he weren't assembled correctly and his engine was wired up all wrong.  Dazed, he tried to recall if he'd been in an accident.

    "Lightning, are you awake?"

Saturday morning began with little excitement, other than Motormaster almost running over a coyote on the way to work.  (Incidentally, despite coyotes being common around here this is the first time I've seen one that wasn't dead on the side of the road...)  Then in the afternoon I got a call at work from Mom -- she wanted me to drive her to the hospital.

I didn't hear much else of the phone call, to be honest -- the word "hospital" pretty much made me

  • BotCon location and date has been announced!

Okay, so it looks like BotCon 2012 will be held in Dallas, Texas on April 26-29.  Rather early this year... though if it's Texas I guess it's best to have it before it gets too scorching hot, right?  ;)

I'd love to go... but we'll have to see if that's possible.  Finances and all... and since I have a life that doesn't revolve around watching the computer 24/7, by the time I got the news and was able to get to the website, the hotel didn't have any rooms available for that stretch of time.  And the friend I normally room with isn't going this year.

  • 12/06/11--22:58: Call For Roommate(s)! (chan 2061895)

  • Welp, I now have a hotel room booked for BotCon!  :boogie:

So I was able to find a phone number for the BotCon hotel, and I called them on my break today to see if there were any hotel rooms left over.  Good news -- they had rooms.  Bad news -- they wanted payment up front, in full, and it was non-refundable.  That just rubbed me the wrong way, since the last time I booked a hotel room (which was admittedly a couple years ago) I had the option of cancelling my booking without charge up to a couple days before the actual date.  Plus it cost a heck of a lot of money, and even though I was pla

  • 12/11/11--09:44: BotCon, Christmas, and Santa's a Nerd (chan 2061895)

  • Still looking for a BotCon roommate here.  Will leave a general notice up in my journal until the spot is filled.  Note me if interested.

Also been doing a little investigating of the area, and it turns out my hotel is within walking distance of the JFK memorial, and is really close to the area where John F. Kennedy was shot.  So on Thursday before registration pickup starts I might plan a little jaunt out there to have a look and get photos.  I guess I should also research what restaurants are in the area too -- the hotel has one restaurant, but I don't want to eat at the same place all week...

  • 12/14/11--13:05: Commission Info (chan 2061895)

  • I probably should have done this BEFORE the Christmas season started, but ah well...

Those who have watched me awhile or dug deep in my gallery probably know that in addition to writing and the occasional drawing, I do sculping with polymer clay.  I've created ornaments, jewelry (mostly earrings and pins), and small statues, and done everything from animals to mythical creatures to even Transformers.  And I've even sold a few of my creations at Fandemonium, and am considering getting an Etsy account to try and sell a few more there.

Before I do so, however, I'd like to open up commissions for my creations here on Dev

  • 12/16/11--21:56: The Gathering Storm -- FINISHED! (chan 2061895)

  • Finally... The Gathering Storm is finished!  :boogie:  Last chapter and epilogue are in the hands of the beta reader now, so once it comes back I hope to be able to post it.

I feel rather bad about this story taking so long to get completed, though, especially since I put A Child Shall Lead Them on hold to work on it.  And especially since I originally promised to have it done before Cars 2 hit theaters.  I apologize for the delay, and hope that this coming year fic updates won't be so few and far between.

Speaking of Cars 2, I finally got a chance to watch it all the way t

  • 12/22/11--08:14: Transformers 2011, Hey, I Actually Like This Show (chan 2061895)

  • Hmmm... I looked through my journal archives and I seem to be missing an entry from early December.  I hope it didn't contain anything TOO important...  If I remember right it was celebrating the end of NaNoWriMo and pondering a Transformers/My Little Pony crossover, but I can't remember what else...

    Ah well.

So I have a confession to make, and possibly some crow to eat.  Remember how I said earlier that I wasn't too thrilled with what I'd seen of Transformers: Prime and that it wouldn't be a series I knocked myself out to watch?  Well... a friend suggested I watch it with her, and we've been catc

  • 12/27/11--09:51: Gloria In Excelsis Deo (chan 2061895)
  • A couple days late for Christmas -- my apologies. But life got crazy around the holidays. Hopefully everyone enjoys it anyhow, even if it is unabashed cheesiness.

I highly doubt Megatron would be at all amused to find any of his troops wanting to celebrate Christmas for any reason... but that doesn't stop an enterprising young sparkling who finds the holiday fascinating for obvious reasons. :XD:

Takes place in the Thundercracker's Glory 'verse, a few months after the main events of the story but before the events of the epilogue.

Fic title inspired by the lyrics of "Angels We Have Heard On High" -- yay for Incredibly Lame Puns. Song lyrics come from "Jingle Bells." And yes, Skywarp's last line was inspired by the Die Hard movie. It's a Christmas movie, honest!

If Glory had to choose a favorite teacher among the Decepticons who served as her tutors and trainers, Swindle would have won hands down.  Not that she hated any of her classes, really -- she learned exciting and interesting things in all of them.  But Hook was a grouch who always made her feel like she was being a bother when she asked questions, and Onslaught, while smart and full of war stories, was too strict, snapping at her if her attention wandered at all during a lesson.  The Stunticons were fun, but all of them had the attention spans of fish, and it was rare that they ever finished a lesson without it e

  • 12/28/11--08:04: Have Yourself a Lazy Little Christmas... XD (chan 2061895)

  • A rather belated Merry Christmas to everyone!  :)  How was everyone's holiday?

We had a pretty laid-back Christmas at our house.  Since neither of the married siblings could make it for Christmas, it was just me, Mom, and Brother #2 for the holidays.  It made for a quiet, relaxing Christmas, and while not the most exciting holiday I still enjoyed it a lot.  I guess what matters most is that we were together as a family and had no major drama for the holidays.

And yes, I got my Christmas fic posted, though it was a few days later than I'd intended.  Sorry, folks.  I ha

  • So happy 2012, people.  :sarcasticclap:  Whoo.

Yeah, sorry if I don't sound to thrilled about it.  I'm a boring person when it comes to celebrating the new year.  I don't drink, don't go partying, and have very few friends local to my area.  So on New Year's Eve I mostly chauffeured Brother #2 and his friend to and from a  New Year's dance our church was holding, ordered a pizza, and watched the rest of Season 1 of Transformers: Prime.  Yeah, I live the exciting life, don't I?  :XD:

Of the TF: Prime characters, I think my favorite characters have to be Prime

  • 01/09/12--19:33: Just a Couple of Memes... (chan 2061895)

  • No, I'm not feeling psychotic, I just love the smiley for it.

And as the journal title states, the only purpose of this particular journal is to post a couple of memes I've found myself tagged with.  So here goes...

    First meme comes from :iconntldr:

For each of the first  10 people  answering this journal entry, I'll put their avatar and the three deviations I like the most from their gallery on the list!

If you answer, you have to do the same in your journal, putting the tagger on the first place. The idea of this is not to get a free feature, but to spread art around for everyone!

  • Still waiting on the beta reader for the final chapters of The Gathering Storm.  Sorry it's taking so long.  Really hoping to get that story wrapped up and resolved here soon...

Also chipping away at the next chapter of A Child Shall Lead Them here.  I'm finding I need to watch Transformers: The Movie again -- this fic won't follow it scene for scene, naturally, but I still want certain events to unfold as they did in the film.  Others... well, let's say there'll be a few departures from the movie.  :giggle:  Will have the next part done by the end of the month... then will get st

Transformers belong to Hasbro, Cars characters belong to Disney/Pixar.

If one were to take the freeway through this desolate corner of Arizona, some fifty miles or so from Flagstaff, they might find a strange beauty to the stark landscape.  Dry and dusty and spotted with patches of tangled sagebrush, it nonetheless boasted magnificent cliffs and bluffs and stone formations that seemed all the more alien for gracing this seeming wasteland.  They might spot the occasional house or tiny, dust-covered town far in the distance, and wonder who would want to live out here, so far removed from the rest of the world.

Among the many road signs that lined the freeway, one in particular would stand ou

  • If there are typos in this journal, I apologize.  The E key popped off my keyboard last week, and even though I managed to reattach it it kept coming off at random intervals.  I finally got fed up with it and did something potentially stupid -- I superglued it in place.  ^^;  So now it doesn't fall off but now sticks from time to time.  Maybe I should swallow my pride and go see a tech guy...

In happier news, the next chapter of A Child Shall Lead Them is finished and has been sent off to the beta-reader!  :D  Yeah yeah, about time, that story hasn't been updated since

  • 01/27/12--17:50: Rabbit Hole Day Abduction! (chan 2061895)

  • Morning.

I opened my eyes and stared at my alarm clock, vaguely feeling that there was something important about today, but unable to realize what.  Friday, I knew that much, which meant I had today off work... nobody's birthday was today as far as I could remember... there weren't any holidays or special events planned for today, were there?

Then it hit me -- January 27th.  Rabbit Hole Day.  The one day out of the year when reality came unglued at the seams.  The day when something in my world went funky for the day, when anything could happen.

I rolled over and stared up at the posters on my

EDIT 1/28/12: Whoops! :iconlerm: pointed out a goof to me -- Cliffjumper was in two places at once. Fixed now.

"Oy, Swoop!  What do you think you're doing in there?"

Swoop jerked online with a start, one hand automatically reaching back to draw his sword from subspace.  Whoever had rather abruptly jolted him awake could count themselves lucky that he'd managed to restrain his impulse to attack until he could identify the intruder.  Had they tried that on Grimlock or Slag, they wouldn't have been so fortunate.

He sat up and regarded Springer with a puzzled look.  "What?"

"You think just because you got the Matrix now means you can park your aft wherever you want?" Springer asked, arching an optic ridge.&
